Beta Gamma Chapter at University of Manitoba

Fighting Hunger

In January 1954, Alpha Gam sister Margaret Moffat Toy pioneered the first home-delivery meal program in the U.S. That program is now known as Meals on Wheels. Today, we are proud partners with both Meals on Wheels and Feeding America. Through service, awareness and fundraising, we join their efforts in the fight to overcome food insecurity right here on our own community.

The Alpha Gamma Delta Purpose calls us to “welcome the opportunity of contributing to the world’s work.” In addition to our fight against hunger, Alpha Gams all across North America participate in an annual Week of Service each February. Collegiate and alumnae members serve in a variety of ways and contribute their time, energy, funds and voices to joyfully serve others.

Here in Winnipeg, each month we have one philanthropy event, which can range from holding a bake sale for local charities that fight hunger to volunteering at a local organization such as Winnipeg Harvest, Siloam Mission, or Agape Table. We also have one big philanthropy event held in the Spring, our Tea Party. Each year we select a local organization to support at our Tea Party. Our 6th Annual Tea Party was held in May 2019, where we raised $1995.08 for Winnipeg Harvest, as well as donated non-perishables.
